Humanitarian Day: Protection of civilians, aid workers not just government’s responsibility- UN

  The United Nations has said the protection of civilians and aid workers, especially those in the North East theatre of insurgency, “is not just Government’s responsibility.” A statement by the United Nations Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Edward Kallon on Wednesday marking the World Humanitarian Day, said: “Today in Nigeria, we all have a role to play.” The statement added that: “Rumours and misinformation about humanitarian personnel and health workers can put their lives at risk. CACOL BEMOANS THE HASTY REMOVAL OF VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS

      The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has chided the Governing Council of the University of Lagos headed by Dr. Wale Babalakin on how Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe was controversially removed as the university’s Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday 12th of August, 2020 at a meeting held in Abuja. The Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, wishes to inform the entire public that a minor fire outbreak  involving a tiny part of one of the administrative buildings within the premises of the palace occurred at about 1:15pm today, Wednesday 19th, August 2020, leaving no harm to the oldest palace in Yoruba land.  The minor inferno which lasted for about 20 minutes was immediately put out by collective efforts of people in the palace led by the Ooni's Chief Security, Kolawole Emmanuel, later joined by men of the fire services from the state government, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife..  Aside from the fact that there was no causality whatsoever, the fire was just a minor occurrence which was nothing to be compared to the misleading huge pictures being painted in the media, particularly the social media. ActionAid calls on governments to uphold safety of humanitarian workers

The Presidency has dismissed as a “patched work of mischief,” a viral video where the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is heard telling the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, about “arrests” concerning the Edo state governorship election. This followed the allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the presidential villa meeting may be a prelude to the arrest of unnamed opposition politicians and clerics in the state before the September 19 election. But a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Tuesday night, said that Gambari and Oshiomhole will never work against their values of protecting Nigerians.
