Ooni Condemns Incessant Rape, child Abuse as Ife celebrates Yeyemolu festival
The Arole Oduduwa & Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II has condemned incessant rape, child abuse and other forms of molestation particularly against women in the society.
Ooni Ogunwusi made the disclosure on Friday, during the annual Yeyemolu festival; which is the remembrance of the first queen of the Ooni of Ife, at his Ile Oduduwa Palace, Ile-Ife.
The frontline traditional ruler while explaining the indispensable roles of women in the society, admonished that they should be respectfully protected from all social vices towards creating a better society.
“Women must not be made prey in the hands of hoodlums and other disgruntled elements in the society. It is heartbreaking to read the multiple crimes being committed against our women and children today especially rape.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that our society is safe for all and equally condemn all forms of immoralities. Women are so unique in nature that anything you give to them, they multiply it.
“Give them a house, they will certainly turn it into a home for all. They are so creative and we all must support them because our society needs their creativity for growth.
“Yeyemolu is a great symbol of womanhood who stood and still stands for justice, truth and also frown at women and children abuse. She lived as human and transformed into a well whose water serves several spiritual purposes.
“She is assigned to every Ooni of Ife including all Oloris and she remain the very first point of call in the palace. Her water is being used to wash the feet of new queens as a sign of welcome, we are doing her anniversary today and it is so significant because of her connection with our creator.
“The world is becoming fearful daily because of the increase of the pandemic coronavirus and this is a genuine reason to speak to Yeyemolu to cleanse the land and keep us safe. We have tried but we cannot do it all by ourselves, that is why we are speaking to our creator through her and we believe that the storm would soon be over.
“As a good woman who hates to see her partner and children suffer, I am confident that she would in her spiritual capacity keep us safe from the pandemic.” Ooni Ogunwusi noted.
In the same vein, the Ooni admonished strict compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Governments and its agency’s orders on curbing the spread of covid-19.
