REVOLUTIONIZATION OF OSHODI-ISOLO LOCAL GOVERNMENT VIA THE INSTRUMENT OF QUALITATIVE EDUCATION. 3 YEARS JOURNEY
Education is the key to the socio-economic development of any society and thus, it must be given the utmost attention needed as the bedrock of the nation's development.
As part of the efforts of the present administration under the leadership of Hon.Idris Bolaji Muse Ariyoh in making Education that works a reality at the grassroots, many policies and programs have been well executed, thereby changing the face of education at the grassroots level amongst which are the provision of serene and conducive learning environment via upgrading of educational infrastructure , Training and re-training of educators, Free UTME and GCE forms, Support for Indigent students, Free School Bus, Provision of Stationeries for students, Spelling Bee for discovering and nurturing of future scholars and the revamping of the Local Government Library for public usage.
It is agreed that the quality of education determines the prosperity of any community.
It is on this critical and importance role which education plays in the society that the ebullient and enigmatic leadership of Hon. Idris Bolajih Muse Ariyoh, has committed more of the scarce resources to education for qualitative and standard to be realized.
Over a thousand students residing in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government have already benefitted from the Annual Free GCE and UTME Forms, educational support scheme of the council, with many already in higher institutions in pursuant of their academic dreams.
The Annual Spelling Bee Competition has been a platform through which emerging scholars have been discovered for proper nurturing with many of them receiving the support of the Local Government in driving them for excellence.
The impact of the Free school ride can't be over emphasized with stress reduction on part of the students in making their journey to and fro easier.
Training and re-training of the teachers for the acquisition of modern skills of teaching for effective delivery in the classrooms is the bane of quality learning which the administration has been pursuing vigorously in ensuring that best teaching and learning is achieved at the grassroots.
The Council Authority due to value placed on the students always celebrates them glamorously on their day which is globally celebrated as Children's Day.
Investment in educational infrastructure has been responsible for the face changing of Afariogun Primary school and Basiru Dania school in making the environment conducive for teaching and learning coupled with state of the art learning facilities.
Afarigoun Primary school is not just having a new block of classrooms but with a working water system, modern toilets for staff and students with new Administrative offices constructed and equipped with state of the art facilities.
In appreciation of the vision for a functioning educational system at the grassroots as pragmatically pursued by the council chairman , the supervisory councilor for Education in the Local Government, Hon. Ganiu Mejidande received the award of Best Supervisory councilor for the year 2019 from Echonews newspaper.
The year 2020 has been a year of extraordinary and unprecedented challenges with many effects on the educational system as schools have been on compulsory shut down in compliance with NCDC directives occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the globe.
When the index case of COVID-19 was discovered in Lagos -Nigeria , the local government through the Environmental Services Department took the enlightenment campaign on preventive measure and causes to the public schools in the local government to enlighten the students and teachers with adequate information on how to prevent the spread of coronavirus and lassa fever in our community.
Also, the men of environmental services has commenced the disinfestation and decontamination of publics schools in response to Lagos State Government earlier announcement of school resumption to some category of students .
Despite this, the council helmsman is not relenting as efforts are on the front burner in changing the face of some of the schools before students and Staff resume academic activity.
