LASEMA Distributes Second batch of Cash Palliatives to Victims of Badagry Rainstorm


...As Indigenes Pray, Praise Mr. Governor's Efforts in Badagry 




Additional 21 families of rainstorm disaster in Badagry yesterday received cash pallatives ranging from two hundred to five hundred thousand naira from the Lagos State Government.



The cash distribution which was in consonance with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration's pledge to protect the lives and properties of Lagosians, was delivered by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency,  LASEMA.



The Agency which has been the arrowhead for the mitigation of the rainstorm disaster in Badagry since it occurred, had commenced the distribution of the cash palliatives to victims of the disaster that lost their buildings and other personal belongings eight days ago.



The receipents who were attended in batches were grouped into three according to the level of damages suffered, with those who suffered severe damages getting N500,000, while those who suffered moderate and mild damages got N400,000 and N200,000 respectively.



Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Hon. Afose, a Commissioner at the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, an indigene of Badagry who spoke on behalf of the government, expressed his joy in witnessing and participating in the presentation of the cash support to 21 families at the Badagry Local Government Area office, where the first batch of 31 families were catered to. 



Still speaking on the four affected communities namely, Iragon, Iragonthogli, Iragbo and Kemu, he appreciated the Governor Sanwo-Olu led Administration for the alleviation of his people's sufferings and his efforts to wipe the tears off the face of his people by reducing the negative impact of the incident.


 

While thanking the Governor for his efforts at rebuilding their community "immediately" after the devastating rainstream disaster, he also extended their thanks to him for approving five major projects which included the dualization of Aradagun to Gbakon road junction.



The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the speedy reconstruction of  the devastated communities was a part of the state government's support to ameliorate the victim's situation was further supported by the cash palliatives which the State Government directed the Agency to distribute according to the level of damage suffered was to further ameliorate their condition.



While thanking the State Government for supporting the victims, he implored residents to remain calm and peaceful, promising that all the victims would be catered in batches.



Speaking on behalf of the community when receiving the palliative for the town hall at Iragon, Chief Sedowhe Francis, Baale of Iragon Thogili, thanked Mr. Governor profusely for his administration's prompt response to the plight of his people, as well as the swift  response of LASEMA immediately the incident occurred 25th, 26th  May, 2020. 



On his part, Rev. Fr. Toye Andrew, Associate Priest of  St. Michael's Catholic Church, Iragon, Badagry,  Lagos, while receiving the palliatives on behalf of the church which was devastated in the rainstorm incident, was full of prayers and praises for the Gov. Sanwo-Olu led Administration.
