NFVCB BOSS MOURNS PROF AKINWALE
The Director General of the National films and video censors board,Alhaji Adedayo Thomas has described the death of foremost theatre practitioner and professor of theatre,Prof Ayo Akinwale as devastating to him and came as a shock to the theatre industry.
In a tribute he signed personally at the residence of the deceased,where he had gone to commiserate with the widow of the late professor, he stated that the late professor Akinwale
was a seasoned theatre practitioner,diligent lecturer and a patriot who gave all he had for the development of the creative industry.
According to him " I woke up this morning to the news of the demise of Prof Ayo Akinwale, a prominent and seasoned Nollywood actor, lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, and one of the best artistic directors in Nigeria.
Professor Ayo Akinwale was a boss, mentor, advisor and dependable ally".
He maintained that prof Akinwale facilitated events at the National Film and Video Censors Board in the past for the shear love he has for him, despite his busy schedule. "Very homely, unassuming and self-effacing "..
He also disclosed that he had planned to pay him a surprise visit today only to be informed that he has passed into the great beyond. It is saddening that his surprise visit turned to a condolence visit to his widow to commiserate with the family."
The DG equally posited that
they had also planned his 70th birthday and retirement celebration for next year.
Aside the condolence visit to the widow of Prof Akinwale,he further paid a visit to a close friend of his, Professor Olu Obafemi FNAL FSONTA FESAN NMOM, renowned playwright and poet, and retired professor of English at the University of Ilorin, to commiserate with him on the demise of his close associate and friend.
He was accompanied by one of his proteges, Dr (Mrs) Shadiat O. Shuaib of the Department of Performing Arts, UNILORIN, where he also met Professor Abdullahi S. Abubakar, Head of Department, English, UNILORIN.
Finally,"We have lost a huge resource person and I am certain he has left a big vacuum. He would be greatly missed by all." the NFVCB boss concluded.
