COMMITTEE FOR THE DEFENCE OF HUMAN RIGHTS CONDEMNS THIS CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY BY THE AUTHORITY

Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has been drawn to the dastardly shooting and killing, maiming and destruction of life and properties of #ENDSARS protesters across the country especially at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State by organize state Agents as seen in various videos and pictures on Tuesday 20th October 2020.

Reports on these incidents show's gross abuse of power, professional misconduct, fragrant disregard to rules of engagement and fundamental Human Rights violations by these actors which led to Lost of lives, several others were injured and properties destroyed.

It is on record that present Day Government came to power through the instrument of peaceful protest. It is reported that President Mohammed Buhari was hosting the Emir of Kano during the melee. We express big disappointment on the President of Nigeria for his failure to address Nigerians and being Responsive as the Commander in Chief.

CDHR understand that some States impose Curfew to enable them curtain infitration of hoodlums from hijacking the #ENDSARS protest which includes Lagos State.
From news reports the Curfew was slated to commence by 4pm but was shifted to 9pm to accommodate Lagosians stranded in traffic to get home. The event of use of live ammunition in case of Lekki Toll Gate on unarmed protesters around 7pm and disconnection of the CCTV cameras and power can least be Condemn. The use of thugs to disperse peaceful, unarmed and defenseless protesters is a direct invitation to anarchy and should never be consider as normal in any democracy.

WE HEREBY DEMAND

1. President Mohammed Buhari to take charge and immediately identify the officers involved in this gross professional misconduct for prosecution and dismissal in line with extant laws

2. President Mohammed Buhari must show uncommon leadership in saving already bad situation in addressing this issues within 48 hours, instead of deploying troops or allowing the use of thugs by Government Agents against defenseless citizens whom He swore an oath to protect.

In the event these criminals are not identify and address by the President Buhari, we shall encourage and mobilize immediate for the removal of Mr President.

CDHR shares in Solidarity with the Nigerian Youths at this moment of grief and Sympathize with families affected by these wickedness
We also wish those injured a quick recovery
