LAGOS NURTW BOSS VISITS SCENES OF DESTRUCTION IN OSHODI ,sues for peace

" Absolves NURTW of complicity in the illegal act

The Lagos State chairman of the National union of road transport workers  (NURTW),Alhaji Musilu Ayinde Akinde on Wednesday visited the makinde police station in mafoluku Oshodi and other places affected by the destruction that occured following the hijack of the #ENDSARS protest, urging the youth to shun any act of violence.

According to him" yesterday Wednesday 28th of October, 2020, I went out to see for myself the extent of destruction that was occasioned by the hijacked #EndSars protest. This is indeed a trying period of our national existence."

He condoled with families of those who died in the tragic event as well as those who sustained injuries

"Firstly, my deepest condolences to the families of those that lost loved ones in the process, I pray God gives you the heart to bear the irreplaceable lost.

To those injured, my heart is with you and I pray for your speed recoveries."he said

Continuing "My  empathy and sympathy are with those who in one way or the other were affected or hurt by the spate of arson, looting and destruction of our national heritage and private properties, as witnessed across the country last week."

He praised  the courage of the Nigerian youths who have spoken up and made their agitations and demands known and  appreciate their levels of decorum and maturity.

The transport union helmsman stated further that as we much forward in our national journey, he urges all  to pray for the peace of Nigeria, particularly Lagos state and environs.

He said he was devasted by the degree of destruction and arson that he saw at Makinde Police station, describing the act as condemnable

"My visit to Makinde Police Station in Mafoluku, Oshodi and some other places that were burnt/destroyed by hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful #EndSars protest is truly regrettable. There is no justification for such destruction. These public places and assets were provided by our money and it does not make sense destroying such facilities or any one for that matter. Countless numbers of BRT buses that were burnt readily come to mind."

He finally absolved members of his union of complicity in the despicable act, saying that his members are responsible unionists who will not descend low  to the level in which those who burnt or destroyed public properties sank.

Lastly "May I put it on record that no member of the NURTW has been arrested or identified as being part of the hoodlums that went about burning and looting. I commend the NURTW family for this and I urge them to maintain their good behaviours."he said..

Finally, he prayed for peace in the NURTW family, Lagos State and the country at large.
