LAGOS,OUR PRIDE,THE COMMERCIAL NERVE CENTRE AND THE HEARTBEAT OF THE YORUBAS MUST NOT BE DESTROYED- COSEG WARNS VANDALS
Those who burnt and looted in Lagos as a fall out of the endsars protests have been warned to stay away from Lagos State as the state remains the pride of Yoruba race and it's preservation for economic posterity will be upheld.
This admonition was given on Wednesday in Lagos by the coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups(COSEG) in a press release issued signed by Comrades Dayo Ogunlana and Dele Daramola the chairman and publicity Secretary of the group Cordinating Council after an exhaustive meeting to review the state of nation declares Lagos as the heartbeat of the Nation and the pride of the yorubas and as a result warns arsonists and agents provocateur to stay clear of Lagos or be brutally dealt with by the group.
According to COSEG ", we were alarmed and pained as a result of the huge and avoidable destruction of facilities and properties our heritage envied by many in and outside Nigeria. It is not an over statement to inform all that Yorubas take Lagos as our own New York and as priceless as this state is to us,we shall not condone any longer any act of recklessness, impunity, destruction of our hard earned heritage that has taken a lot of scarce resources to build and to purchase".
" Some were even got on loan payable indirectly by us too. Buses that were provided to ease one of the major problems in Lagos State- transportation. Today our people groan, walk long distances as these buses that are always there have been destroyed".
The group stated the repercussions for the arsonists and the people they describe as agent provocateurs who refuse to heed to their warning.
COSEG said" we shall March down and repel very strongly anybody found to do this act again. We shall not hesitate to do the needful if any one or any group attempts again to destroy Lagos properties ,facilities our heritage. These people or groups who have hidden motive and refuse to stop their hatred for Lagos may not live to tell the reason for their hatred if they continue with thier destruction of our valued heritage".
The group while commending the governor of Lagos State for showing capacity and refusing to go to sleep after the destruction calls on him to pay commensurate compensation to those affected by the SARS action and also by the unwarranted shooting of the military. " We call on Mr Governor of Lagos State to pay commensurate compensation to those affected by SARS action and avoidable shooting and those whosr properties were destroyed during the fracas. It might be massive but at least they must be supported. While calling the judicial panel set up to conclude their job in earnest and proffer recommendations without any iota of bias as the conclusion of this sitting will give the youth with good intentions hope, calm thier nerves and help the state on measures to take so that this regrettable do not occur again.we support.".
COSEG also said they support all the actions taken by Mr Governor so far in the aftermath of the EndSars protest.
The group said" We support and affirm all the processes and actions taken by Mr Governor so far after the endsars protest, among them is the Trust fund created for this purpose, but we urge Mr Governor should also add a representative of the civil society on the panel so as to ensure monitoring and transparency"
The group concluded by calling on Mr president to grant Lagos Special Status, give it special attention and always treat Lagos Specially in its distribution or allocation of resources.
Conclusively" We call on Mr President to use his position as a revered father to grant Lagos Special Status and ensure all processes to do this are done and ratified during his era as Lagosians and Nigerians will not forget this gesture,it's a legacy he must set. This has been a recurring decimal and considering the importance of Lagos as the barometer which the country's development and economy growth is always been measured. Lagos deserves special attention and it is fair that this is recognised and action to this respect is taken. We have trust in Mr president's judgement and believe he will always justice to issues of this form".
