Ekiti SWAGA Takes Unity Message to Grassroots
Political stalwarts in Ekiti State have begun a move to finding truce to the lingering insecurity and acute shortage of expectations from the political manifestations in the state, with a sensitization tour, aimed at providing a balance for the future through quality representation in coming elections.
Pricked by the prevailing hardship greeting the national socio-political climate, the group of politicians, acting under the aegis of South West Agenda for 2023 (SWAGA), are spreading the message of presenting humane and pro-people representatives as panacea for the ongoing seemingly governmental ineptitudes.
Chairman of the Ekiti State SWAGA, Prince Bangboye Adegoroye, who is currently leading members on an enlightenment exercise across the 16 local government councils in the state, stated that it is only through quality representation in governance that the country, and indeed Ekiti State could be delivered from besetting crises.
According to him, “the need to roll up our sleeves in the effort to produce a people friendly and resourceful go-getter to run the affairs of our nation and indeed our state, Ekiti, is a serious project we need to face headlong as a way of wriggling our people from the current mess we found ourselves as a result of agelong corruptions which has made governance of our nation a furnace and leadership a hell.
“We have to be proactive, more than ever before as a plunge into a further mess may spell doom for a nation that is already on a life support as a result of the plundering of the past, majorly caused by visionless leadership that held the nation by its jugular between 1999 and 2015, causing unprecedented lacuna that only a political genius could fix,” he said.
Adegoroye, noted that it is just apt to begin the move to identify who will lead the from the south west, now that it is becoming more apparent that the ruling All Progressives Congress would likely pick its presidential candidate from the south south.
“The political leadership of the country is more than ever before pointing to the south and we feel the need to move with time to ensure we present the right candidate from our zone. The outcome of our research is already settling upon Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom we have found to be the round peg to adequately fill the leadership round hole of our nation. We feel we must match up speed with time and this sensitization tour, which is more of sampling opinions, is meant to putting our house in order in the south west, to avoid clash of opinions when it comes to presenting who to lead from our zone.
“We feel the need to do this, and urgently too, since we may have contenders from other sections of the south south, who will have to compete with whoever we come up with as the time comes,” he stressed.
SWAGA, a political pressure group, seems to be leaving no stone unturned in effort to secure a generally accepted candidate for the number one seat from the south western zone.
A member of the mobilization committee of the Ekiti SWAGA, Omo Oba'binrin Adebola Adediwura, noted that the group is adopting a holistic approach in the effort to put sanity to governance, starting from the State Congress, slated to hold in June, 2021.
“A journey of a thousand miles must start with a step. We feel the need to start early with this move so that the Yoruba race will be on same page, for once, in picking who to lead from their zone. We are breaking the agelong celebrated curse of Alaafin Aole which we were made to believe is causing us not to speak with one voice. We have witnessed so many disappointments in the past, caused by disunity. We want to do it differently this time.
“What we are doing is voluntary. We see it as our own contribution for the good of our zone and the nation at large. We are so resolute in the effort; we are so committed. We are sure the nation, and indeed, Ekiti State, will begin to see the dividend of our efforts from June, when we shall be holding our state congresses,” she said.
