Empowering Artisans, Enhancing Livelihoods: Lagos State Government Unveils JAMAJAMA and Skill Acquisition Programs

In an inspiring drive to uplift the artisan sector, Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu has empowered 800 artisans and 400 tradesmen from 60 traders’ associations, providing them with modern tools and equipment during the 12th graduation ceremony of the Lagos State Skill Acquisition Centres. This groundbreaking initiative underscores the Lagos State government’s dedication to fostering productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable growth in the local economy.

Following the governor's announcement, JAMAJAMA quickly responded by announcing its vision to support the newly trained artisans. Through their online platform, artisans can showcase their skills, connect with potential clients, and access additional training resources. On November 06, 2024, JAMAJAMA launched the "Artisans Network," a dedicated section on their platform that offers free registration for all graduates of the Lagos State Skill Acquisition Centres. This network provides artisans with tools to manage their businesses, such as scheduling, invoicing, and client management.

The collaboration between the Lagos State government and JAMAJAMA embodies the strength of public-private partnerships, blending government support with innovative digital solutions to achieve shared goals. JAMAJAMA provides artisans with increased market access, a streamlined channel for customer engagement, and an opportunity to build their brand—key elements vital for long-term growth in today’s competitive market. This partnership beautifully complements the government’s investment in skill development and modern tools, positioning artisans for success on all fronts.

...Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Vision for Wealth Creation

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration has consistently championed wealth creation and employment initiatives, highlighting traditional and social entrepreneurship as pivotal to Lagos’ economic growth. Under his leadership, programs like the Eko Job Center, business and management consultancy services, and skill acquisition initiatives continue to support small and medium-sized enterprises, tradesmen, and artisans. The collaboration with JAMAJAMA aligns seamlessly with the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, which emphasizes social inclusion, youth empowerment, and equal economic opportunities for all Lagosians.

The recent follow-up inspection at the Eko Job Center in Ikorodu served to reinforce the government’s commitment to these initiatives. Officials highlighted the governor’s dedication to fostering wealth creation and employment, emphasizing the unique opportunities presented by JAMAJAMA’s platform for artisans and tradesmen to thrive in a modern economy.

The empowerment of artisans and tradesmen through modern equipment and JAMAJAMA’s online marketplace is expected to yield substantial improvements in their economic conditions. The tools provided by the state enable artisans to elevate the quality of their services, boosting their productivity and income potential. Moreover, JAMAJAMA’s platform gives these skilled professionals a direct sales channel, enhances their visibility, and helps build their reputation, creating a dynamic and supportive community for local craftsmanship.

This partnership between JAMAJAMA and the Lagos State government marks a new era of economic empowerment and skill development for Lagos artisans. As these initiatives grow, they promise to transform countless lives, foster innovation, and propel economic growth in Lagos State. Together, JAMAJAMA and Lagos State are paving the way for a brighter future for the artisan community, driving sustainable development, and celebrating the power of local talent.
