Jandor described as very unfortunate and barbaric, the killings of many police officers who were only tools in the hand of a very bad system we

Nigeria media & Misinformation

Image
Just yesterday the Nigeria media space was agog with stories about the election of Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonji Iweala as DG WTO when the facts on the ground  is contrary, that the election of the head of that body has not yet been held, but comes up on the 9th of November 2020. Shamelessly,  instead of admitting that the media goofed, some persons have been justifying it on the basis of her getting the top position based on the majority nomination she has received from member delegates which is not the same thing as the election. My question this morning for people who try to rationalize everything under the sun no matter how illogical it sounds, however, one must admit that having gotten the highest nomination is like a sure bet to clinching the job, but the indisputable fact is that one cannot get the jtop ob without the proper election taking place, nomination is not the licence to get the job, but rather it can only happen through election. Thus my question is that, is nomination and ele

Abdullahi Enilolobo, during a meeting organized to brainstorm on the recent developments in the state, an eyewitness disclosed. THE #ENDSARS PROTESTS; A FUNDAMENTAL LESSON IN DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE

Image
- By Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.     I heavily grieve for those who have lost their lives or been injured during the period of these protests. My deepest sympathies go to their families and loved ones for none should have been made to pay such a dear price. My career as an active politician spans nearly three decades.  In that time, I have seen many things as Nigeria has struggled, sometimes against itself, to undertake the often painful yet inexorable push toward democratic government accountable to, and protective of, the people.   Though this journey, I have traversed the landscape of human experience. Having been as a political prisoner during our struggle for democracy but also having the singular honour of serving this state and its people as governor, I have known highs and lows, seen both the good and the bad of things.   But the events of the past few days have been extraordinary in a most dire sense. Only time will tell if we have the collective wisdom and requisite compassion

This was the expression on the faces of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) members from Southwest and Governors as they toured the public assets and private properties destroyed in Wednesday's coordinated arson in Lagos State.   The Governors and the Ministers were in Lagos on Sunday to commiserate with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the large-scale destruction of public and private facilities by hoodlums who had hijacked the #EndSARS protests by youths.   The delegation of Governors and Ministers was personally received by Sanwo-Olu at the State House in Marina, where the Lagos helmsman showed them the pictorial evidence of the violence before visiting some  the torched assets - the Lagos High Court, the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) building and the Forensic Lab.   Many sighed endlessly; others were simply shaking their heads. Team Jandor commence ‘clean up Lagos exercise’

Image
The current biggest socio-political group in Lagos and proponents of the Lagos4Lagos movement, TEAM JANDOR, has launched the voluntary ‘Clean Up Lagos’ exercise in a bid to see the embattled state bounce back after the EndSARS peaceful protests got hijacked by hoodlums and went violent, leaving loss of lives and properties in its tracks. The lead Visioner of the group, Mr. Abdul - Azeez Olajide Adediran, had recently called for calm, urging Lagosians to resolve the ongoing challenges via persistent dialogue with the government. Jandor, as he is fondly called, had also condemned very strongly, the massive looting and destruction of both private and public properties across the state, which according to him will only add more pressure to the state's lean infrastructure and spell increased hardship especially to the poor and vulnerable. Meanwhile, members of the group have taken to highways and streets of Lagos to help clean up and rid the state of unsightly debris from the riots so b

STOP THE CARNAGE, EMBRACE PEACE, CAIDOV

Image
Aggrieved Nigerians who are burning and destroying private and public properties have been advised to desist from the carnage and ensure the peace option provided by the government is embraced so that progress and tranquility will return to the country.  This advise was given on Friday in Lagos by the centre Against  Injustice and domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a press release signed by its Executive Director, comrade Gbenga Soloki, stressing that the infiltration of the protest remain a sad occurrence, but the message has been passed.  The group posited further that the youth, angered by the underdevelopment in their country , decided to show their displeasure and actually received government attention before the hijack by hoodlums and miscreants.   According to the CAIDOV Boss"let us all salute the resilience and commitment of the Nigerian youth, who mobilised and protested against the bad policies of government especially the atrocities of the men and officers of the now disband

YOREM DISSOCIATES SELF FROM VANDALISM IN LAGOS MAINLAND, URGES GOVERNMENT TO FISH OUT PERPETRATORS

Image
Few minutes ago I got a call from Ebute-Metta that some hoodlums were on their way to LAWMA office in Otto with the intent of setting it ablaze.  Though, I am less concern but the most disturbing is that they were chanting "We are from Floor" which happens to be my base in Ebute-Metta East presently under Yaba Local Council Development Area, while Otto is in Ebute-Metta West in Lagos Mainland Local Government.  I believe this is a ploy to one tarnish the good reputation we had built over the years, because I am bold to say that we at Aluta Floor are genuine Fighters; we are very clear about our demands.  We are neither vandals  nor miscreants; and secondly, they are trying to divert the attention of the State to us so as to creat animosity between Our group, YOREM, Our Leader, Adewale Balogun and the State.  I am the interim Secretary of Yoruba Revolutionary Movement(YOREM), and I want to deny strongly our involvement in this said incident and any other of such that will crea

EndSARS: Nigeria risks huge collective losses, Rep Yusuf warns

Image
Without proper dialogue and a timely resolution of the current face-off that started as ‘ENDSARS’ protest, Nigeria’s political elites and protesting youth stand the risk of huge collective losses, a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Teejay Yusuf has warned. In a statement issued in Abuja, Honourable Yusuf (PDP, Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal constituency) also said that the drafting of the army to break Nigerian youth peaceful protest in as well as the consequent loss of lives and properties is not only highly condemnable but shocking and outrightly unfortunate. Yusuf, a former students activist noted that long years of official insensitivity, lack of effective response to loud complaints against SARS three years ago and persistent scepticism about government’s promises are among factors that caused the current face-off. Lamenting the loss of lives and the criminal opportunism of hoodlums, Honourable Yusuf emphasized that irrespective of political party affiliations and et

ENDSARS: BRUTAL ATTACK ON PEACEFUL PROTESTERS IS COUNTERPRODUCTIVE AND AN ABERRATION IN A DEMOCRACY

Image
# The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has decried the use of brute force on some #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate, Lagos, yesterday. In a release by the Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran and signed by its Director of Administration and Programmes Mr. Tola Oresanwo, he stated, “The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, received the news on the repression and shooting of some protesters who were at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos in continuation of their ENDSARS Protest which has been going on for some days now”. For the umpteenth time, we are reiterating our position of disappointment over the use of brute force in a civil matter like this. The excessive use of armed military men who are trained and saddled with the protection of the country’s territorial integrity for confronting domestic issues like civilian protests is unacceptable, barbaric, uncivilized and savagery. The attack on peaceful protesters just on the basis of publicly decrying

ENDSARS : KOGI GOV URGES YOUTHS TO END PROTESTS, DIALOGUE WITH GOVT

Image
# ......ADVISES YOUTHS IN KOGI AGAINST BLOCKING ROADS Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has again called on Nigerian youths protesting against police brutality across the country to end the ongoing protests and enter a roundtable dialogue with government in addressing their various demands. Bello made the call on Monday in his address to Nigerian youths which is the 5th in the series of his addresses to the youths since the commencement of their protests about 10 days ago. He said the protesting youths have over the last 10 days demonstrated resilience and courage in making their demands known to the government, adding that was time leaders of the protesters come out to engage with the government. According to him, it would be difficult for the governments at all levels to know who to interface with in resolving some of the issues if there are no leaders, adding that opportunists could hijack the gains of the protests. "In like manner, the real leaders and spokespersons of these p

ENDSARS RIOTS: Jandor condemns use of live bullets on peaceful protesters

... blames poor government decision for escalation The turn of events, especially in the last 48hours in Lagos, has undoubtedly exposed serious gaps in leadership and coordination within the Governor Sanwo-Olu administration, the Lead Visioner of TEAM JANDOR, Mr. Abdul - Azeez Olajide Adediran, revealed on Wednesday. It could be recalled that tragedy struck on Tuesday when security operatives, in a bid to disperse #EndSARS protesters, reportedly opened fire on youths at the Lekki tollgate around 7pm. The Lagos largest socio - political group also lost a devoted member of TEAM JANDOR, Mr. Abiodun Adesoye,  murdered by fired bullets from the rifle of security operatives in the Lagos Island area of Lagos state. Jandor, as he is popularly called, noted that the “peaceful protests got escalated to shocking dimensions, largely due to poor judgement and ill-timed decisions of the government.  He expressed that “As the Chief Security Officer of the state, no amount of bulk passing or blame gam

Reports on these incidents show's gross abuse of power, professional misconduct, fragrant disregard to rules of engagement and fundamental Human Rights violations by these actors which led to Lost of lives, several others were injured and properties destroyed. It is on record that present Day Government came to power through the instrument of peaceful protest. It is reported that President Mohammed Buhari was hosting the Emir of Kano during the melee. EndSARS: OONI OFFERS TO MEDIATE, FLAYS ATTACK ON PROTESTERS, SEPARATES HOODLUMS FROM REAL PROTESTERS

Image
The Ooni of Ife & Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II has announced plans by traditional rulers in Nigeria to immediately mediate between the Federal Government and organisers of the EndSARS Movement,  saying the sad event that happened yesterday at the Lekki Toll gate in Lagos where armed soldiers were alleged to have killed unarmed young protesters is highly disheartening and regrettable.  Ooni Ogunwusi said the decision of the authorities to protect public facilities is necessary but should not include military engagement of the armless protesting youths as the deployment of armed military personnel in clearly civil protests ought not to be encouraged until all peaceful avenues have been fully exhausted, saying such preemptive strikes can only worsen an already combustible situation. The African foremost monarch preached that more patience and dialogue is needed to bring both parties to the table to set timelines for the implementation of the demands of the mov
