LAWMA MD MEETS WITH CEOs / SERVICE PROVIDERS ON SWEEPERS SAFETY

The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, today, held a meeting with CEOs/service providers, on sweepers’ safety, welfare, and adherence to rule of engagement, for effective service delivery, to achieve a cleaner environment, at LAWMA’s head office, Ijora-Olopa. Mr. Odumboni, speaking during the meeting, stated that the health and safety of the sweepers were major priorities of the Authority, which necessitated the health insurance for the sweepers, early in the year, to mitigate the effect of unforeseen incidents, in the course of their duties. The Managing Director noted further that the sweepers have latterly become more exposed to danger from reckless motorists driving against traffic, hence the need for a collaborative effort for their safety.

More than 43 persons may have been killed, Zulum told by bereaved community

The death toll from Saturday’s killing of rice farmers in Borno State. North East Nigeria may rise from 43. the governor of the state, Prof. Babagana Zulum has been told by the bereaved community. The governor was told this during the burial on Sunday of the 43 corpses of farmers retrieved from the rice field attacked by Boko Haram on Saturday. The farmers were slaughtered by suspected Boko Haram who subdued them at a massive rice plantation in Kashebe village on Saturday. During the emotional burial on Sunday, the governor was told by residents who were involved in the retrieval of the corpses that it was still early to determine the number of those killed in the attack. They revealed that some of those that went to the farmers on Saturday were still missing. FAO Provides Dry Season Farm Inputs To 14,250 Households

The United Nations Food and Agriculture  Organisation ( FAO ) has provided dry season farm inputs to 14,250 households for the 2020- 2021 dry season farming in troubled Borno State.  This is part of the UN agency to fight poverty and hunger in the state due to the over a decade Boko Haram crisis. FAO's Country Representative in Nigeria, Mr. Fred Kafeero, made this disclosure  on Thursday during the launch of the 2020/2021 dry season farming intervention at Farm Centre in Maiduguri.  Kafeero said:"Between 2017 and 2020, FAO reached about 218,741 households in Borno State with inputs comprising of seeds of cereals, pulse and vegetables to cultivate during rainy season farming. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has lamented that both the effects of over a decade long Boko Haram crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic have triggered the need for improved child protection service in the troubled North East. Speaking to our correspondent, the spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said the military has done a thorough investigation and have found out there is no crash anywhere in Bama. AIR TASK FORCE INFLICTS HEAVY CASUALTIES ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS IN SAMBISA FOREST AREA

 The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has inflicted heavy casualties on Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State. This was achieved through multiple air strikes executed on 14 November 2020 at 2 locations - Gobara and the Sambisa ‘S’ Region - in the vicinity of the Forest that were being used by the BHTs as logistics bases as well as staging areas to launch attacks.   Consequently, the ATF dispatched appropriate force packages of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) attack aircraft to engage the target areas. Several BHTs were spotted under the dense vegetation of the locations as the NAF jets took turns in attacking the targets, neutralizing some of them.    The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not relent until all enemies of the Nation are neutralised and normalcy is restored to all troubled zones.

Despite COVID-19 challenges, malaria prevention drug administered on 2.1 children in Borno

Malaria prevention drugs have been administered on 2.1 million children in Borno State. This according to the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Saliyu Kwaya-Bura was despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. He said the state was able to achieve this milestone due to collaboration with the Federal government and the World Health Organisation ( WHO ). Kwaya-Bura said this on Sunday during the fourth circle of malaria prevention programme held at the Elmiskin IDPs camp in Maiduguri. He said one of the greatest burden,  particularly, with children under the age of five is the high burden of malaria, stressing that the intervention by the Federal government and indeed the Borno State government, supported by partners especially, the WHO, is to give drugs to children under the age of five, such that it helped build their immunity and protect them from contracting malaria.  The Commissioner added that with the drugs administered, even if the children contract malaria, it is r
